I've been building robots for over a decade. When I was younger I'd enter competitions and conduct research. Now, apart from taking the occasional consulting job or giving the occasional lecture, I just make nonserious robots for entertainment on YouTube. A robot can be a "character," and thus more relatable and exciting to students than other interdisciplinary STEM projects.
2024 - Taco Tuesday V2
An upgraded 30 horsepower, 7000 rpm weapon caused excessive gyroscopic forces
2023 - Taco Tuesday V1
This full-size 250lb BattleBot competed at the Las Vegas Proving Grounds
2021 - Fungi Robot
To explore bio-friendly building materials, I grew the chassis of this robot from mycelium
2020 - Plant Watering Robot
Whimsical Arduino robot that waters plants using a small bucket
2012-2020 - FIRST Robotics
After working on our district's rookie FIRST Robotics team back in high school, I then volunteered as a mentor through 2020
2019 - 1lb Combat Robot
A robot with an unusual design that can drive on 3 of its sides
2017 - BattleBot
One of the two heavyweight (250lb) combat robots that I have designed. I have yet to acquire the funding and space needed to build one.
2017 - Variable Stiffness Research
Throughout undergrad I did various research in compliant mechanism design, soft robotics, layer jamming, and co-robot safety
2016 - Coffee Making Robot
This Alexa-connected coffee maker was bad at making coffee, but charmed everyone who interacted with it. It won 1st place Hardware Project at the OSU Hackathon (team of 3)
2016 - Krave Monster V1
This 1lb combat robot placed 1st at the Illinois Bot Brawl and inspired numerous fan builds
2016 - Remote Controlled Car
In 24 hours we built and programed a device to remotely control my car (team of 3)
2015 - Transforming Robot Wheel
This transforming wheel design won the ASME Student Robotic Design competition and got me my first patent
2015 - BB8
A small-scale version of the StarWars BB8 Droid built in just 24 hours
2015 - Danger Zone V1
My very first 1 pound combat robot, which was later re-designed in 2017 and 2018
2015 - Pancake Robot
Built in 24 hours, this iOS-controlled robot made pancakes in custom shapes. We placed 1st at the OSU Makeathon (team of 3)
2014 - Underwater ROV
I designed the grasper for this ROV as part of my participation in the underwater robotics club
2014 - Engineering Honors Robot
The swivel-wheel chassis drove our team's programmer insane, but got us the fastest time and Design Innovation Award
(team of 4)
(team of 4)
2013 - Sumo Robot V2
My senior year of high school I placed first at the National Robotics Challenge with this quick, symmetrical sumo robot
2012 - NRC Rescue Robot V2
Pea gravel tends to jam treads, so I used a rotary walker mechanism on this unique all terrain robot. Almost everything was custom: even the washers were hand cut. The design won the Honda Innovation Award
2011 - Sumo Robot V1
As I did not yet know how to program, this robot traded a microcontroller for bump switches and intelligent wiring
2009 - NRC Rescue Robot V1
I competed as a middle schooler against high school teams and placed 3rd with this lightweight cardboard robot
2007 - Virtual Presence Robot
This robot, funded by my lawn mowing money, was equipped with an onboard camera and demonstrates an early interest in aesthetic design
2004 - RC Toy
Made when I was 9 years old, this is one of the many cars and boats I glued together from a hodgepodge of legos, science kits, and disassembled toys
